Brookshire Grocery Co. is deploying its “Community Kitchen” and a team of employee-partners to serve free hot meals to people who are affected by Hurricane Laura in the Central Louisiana area. In the Spring Market store parking lots, a team will be serving burgers or sausage with limited quantities starting at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at 501 West Highway 90 in Iowa and 5:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at 620 North Highway 26 in Lake Arthur. “Our hearts and prayers go out to those who are affected by this devastating hurricane. We are proud to stand with and serve Louisiana as we work together to restore our communities,” said Brad Brookshire, Brookshire Grocery Co. Chairman and CEO. “We know many are still without power and we are grateful to be able to provide a free hot meal. As we have for 92 years, our company is dedicated to giving back and supporting our partners, customers and neighbors.” In the last two weeks, BGC has donated 27 truckloads of water and/or ice to those who are without power in Louisiana. The company continues to monitor the situation and supply additional resources to best serve customers. BGC’s top priority is safety of our employee-partners and customers. In commitment to that, our team will continue to uphold strict COVID-19 protocols in our stores and while providing relief efforts in the community. BGC employee-partners will wear gloves and masks while providing contactless service in the drive thru lines at the Community Kitchen sites. The company encourages people without vehicles to practice social distancing and wear masks or facial coverings when receiving a meal. The company operates more than 180 stores under the Brookshire’s, Super 1 Foods, FRESH by Brookshire’s and Spring Market banners, along with three distribution centers and a corporate office.
